Book Basket Publishers

An online bookstore for a publishing house, built on WooCommerce, with custom plugins that bring Amazon sales and author royalties into one admin.

WordPress · WooCommerce · Amazon SP-API

The challenge

Book Basket Publishers sells its catalogue through its own WooCommerce store and on Amazon. The store already used a royalty management plugin to pay authors, but it only knew about website sales. Amazon sales had to be gathered and reconciled separately, which was slow and easy to get wrong.

What we built

We wrote two custom WordPress plugins that extend the existing setup without modifying other plugins' code.

  • Amazon royalty sync connects to the Amazon Selling Partner API using Login with Amazon (OAuth 2.0), pulls sales data on a schedule, matches each sale to the right book and author, and feeds it into the royalty calculations, with reports in the WordPress admin.
  • ISBN and ASIN manager adds ISBN and ASIN fields to WooCommerce products so every title can be matched reliably between the store and Amazon.

Along the way we solved the practical problems that come with marketplace APIs: timestamp formats, the difference between sandbox and production endpoints, and outbound firewall rules on the hosting server.

Making the store faster

We also tuned the hosting stack to reduce server response time: Redis object caching over a Unix socket, Nginx serving pre-built cached pages directly, correct real-visitor IPs behind Cloudflare, and PHP-FPM settings matched to the server.
